All artists know how important it is to keep the spark going. But sometimes it is not that easy. After all no one really knows where the spark comes from and where it disappears or when!
Depending on the musician skills, he/she can be good or bad hiding the “totally not into it” side effect of losing the spark from the audience. But the more it is suppressed and neglected the more the harder the blow will be.
Losing the spark might be equivalent to losing the passion and hence the transfer from a right brained rave life to the left brained logically calculated life.
But honestly, a passion and profession that survived puberty and its evil hormonal surges would not just fade so easily!
Some will start using unsustainable stimulants like drugs, alcohol or sex in the hope of finding the inspiration but history teaches us otherwise.
In my opinion, the loss of spark is, a lot of times, related to basic needs that musicians deny themselves for so long (legitimately because of their work conditions!) until it slowly kills the spark.
If you are experiencing feelings of loss of interest, boredom, dissatisfaction about your music consider those facts (see chart below)
- Social Health: Humans are sociable creature. Their built in instinct is to be part of a community and belong to its individuals and territory. Have a place to call home, friends and family. It was maybe hard for Paganini, but for us, communicating with loved ones is at the tip of our fingers 24/7
- Brain health: Dopamine, serotonin, oxytocin and other neurotransmitters are responsible for giving us a reason live! Make sure your internal dope is balanced!
- Body health: Sleep, rest and simple joys of life are crucial for balancing the nervous system, skipping those means a slow death to one’s creative capabilities
- Stress release: musicians will likely start the profession along with its emotional and physical stress way earlier and harsher than any other profession. If there is no proper channeling to release that stress regularly it will accumulate and blow in different forms, mentally or physically. Ask yourself: Where is your safe place? Your stress release place? The place you go to only because you are enjoying it, not because it is your bread and butter, not because your manager says you have to and not because everyone else expect you to.
The passion and enthusiasm could be hiding there under a pile or two of physical, emotional and mental challenges. Most of it can be healed with mild, natural and holistic approaches.
