So back to the first sentence of this post, it is very important to understand that your body is doing its ultimate best to guarantee your survival. It does not matter for this impressive system if you survive with a sick organ or two.
Survival comes first with almost no consideration for quality of life!! Your body will sacrifice any organ if this means it will make you survive as long as possible.
Do not judge your body for doing so, this is a great strategy!
Imagine you are running from a lion in the jungle. In order to optimize speed by delivering the highest amount of energy to your limbs, your body will shut off some systems that will not be used during this stressful moment. You obviously do not need to be distracted by feeling hungry or feeling you want to mate! So your body will shut down all sources of energy going to your digestive and reproductive systems. After all you cannot reproduce if you get eaten!!!
The reproductive system will always be the first system to shut down when your body is taking that decision. Simply because you can survive without reproducing but you will die if other systems are shut down or not getting enough energy to function.
In my opinion, this is the main reason why women with PCOS could face sexuality related challenges. The reproductive system is being deprived from the energy it needs because it is redirected to "survival mood". And this mood is so tiring because it is supposed to happen for short periods of time (the time you need to runaway from the lion then rest) but in the case of any health conditions it lingers, and becomes a chronic type of stress.
That being said, proper lifestyle and nutrition are crucial to alleviate the stress so the body goes back to the "rest and digest" mood and allows the brain to send signals of pleasure and satisfaction to the reproductive system.
Lowering all types of stress is one of the main steps towards the healing of any health condition.
